BGW preparation guide

Preparing for a self-employed home loan

Help your broker understand the business behind your income.

Explain how you earn your income

Describe your business structure, how long you have traded and how you pay yourself. Explain seasonal patterns, recent changes and any one-off events affecting the figures.

Gather the information you already have

Have recent personal and business tax returns, notices of assessment, business financial statements and relevant bank statements available. Depending on the lender, other evidence such as business activity statements may be requested. Confirm the required periods with Brion before gathering everything.

Include personal and business commitments

Make a clear list of home loans, business facilities, equipment finance, credit-card limits and any tax payment arrangements. Separate regular business expenses from personal living costs.

Discuss changes before applying

If the latest year looks different from earlier years, explain why. A lender needs evidence of the income it can rely on. Brion can identify questions that may need input from your accountant.

Understand that lender requirements vary

There is no single document list or guaranteed outcome for every business owner. Alternative income evidence may be accepted for some products, subject to lender policy, pricing and assessment.

Take the next step with your documents protected

Begin with an outline of your plans and business. Brion can then explain which evidence is needed and how to provide it through the appropriate collection process. Do not include identity documents in a general email enquiry.
